How to Insert Graphics Into Microsoft Excel

Excel is great for displaying and calculating data, but all those numbers can get a little boring. If you're planning to share your work with someone, you might want to add some graphics to bring some life to your data. You can add clip art, pictures or any other graphic to Excel just as you put graphics into other Microsoft Office programs such as Word.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide where you want your graphic. Select the cell where you want the graphics upper left corner to be located. The graphic will cover up cells rather than be part of a cell, so choose a cell away from data.

    • 2

Choose "Picture" from the insert menu. You'll see a menu with the different types of graphics you may insert into Excel.

    • 3

Select "Clip Art" to bring up the Microsoft Office clip art wizard and search for a piece of clip art. Select "AutoShape" to insert a customizable shape. Double click the shape to edit the outline, fill color, size and other properties of the shape. Choose "WordArt" for a wizard that allows you to create decorative text.

    • 4

Click "Organization Chart" to open a wizard who guides you through creating a corporate organizational hierarchy.

    • 5

Insert graphics into Excel from a scanner or digital camera by choosing "From Scanner or Camera." Excel works with your scanner or camera to scan or acquire the image directly.

    • 6

Put a graphic from your hard drive into Excel by choosing "From File." Navigate to where the graphic is on your hard drive and click the "Insert" button.

    • 7

Resize the graphic by placing your mouse pointer over its corners. You can also move the graphic by clicking and dragging it.
