Step 1
Stretch thoroughly before doing any jumps. Sit in a straddle position and reach over to touch your toe. Repeat on each side and hold the stretch for 20 seconds. Stretch with your legs extended straight in front of you in a pike position also.
-
Step 2
Practice the form of the abstract jump sitting on the floor first. Bend both legs either to the right or to the left. One leg sits at a 90 degree angle in front of your body. The other leg bends around your body with the knee touching the toe of the leg that is at a 90 degree angle.
-
Step 3
Hold your arms with elbows bent in a touchdown position. Your fists are just below your chin so the crowd can see your smiling face. You want your arms to be tight and strong in your jump.
-
Step 4
Start the cheerleading abstract jump with a prep. Hold your arms in a high V position and stand on your toes. Circle your arms in front of your body as you bend your knees. Spring into the air using as much force as possible. The prep is critical in gaining height in a cheerleading jump.
-
Step 5
Execute the abstract jump as you spring into the air. Use the same form that you used when you were on the floor.
-
Step 6
Land with your feet together and arms by your side after hitting the highest point in your jump. Bend your knees slightly as you land to prevent injury.
