2
Find a local sponsor or save some money. The pageant circuit is expensive with the cost of coaches, makeup and hair artists, costumes and travel.

3
Get a coach. If you are serious about winning, it's worth the expense. You can bet the girls with trophies lining their walls have coaches. If you don't know where to find one, ask your local pageant director for a recommendation.
-
4
Pick a platform. The Miss America Organization require each contestant to have a platform, or issue, that they are working to promote. Over the years Miss Americas have been spokespersons for homelessness, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, literacy and many other causes.

5
Contact someone from a local office for your platform cause. For example, if you choose cancer as your platform, contact your local American Cancer Society office. Some causes will give you information or support your success in exchange for helping them to promote their cause.

Compete in and win the state title. This is your ticket to the Miss America pageant. You can compete for the state title more than once. However, in most states, you can represent your state only once in the Miss America pageant.
