Takoyaki is a popular Japanese dumpling which originated in Osaka. Vendors sell it as a fast food on the streets in Japan. It isn't elaborate or overly complicated and requires little clean-up. A Takoyaki party is an hors d'oeuvre party and can serve as an ideal stepping stone towards entree-based parties for the inexperienced cook.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Takoyaki plate
  • Takoyaki recipe

Making Takoyaki

Step1
Visit bento.com to find a takoyaki recipe that you like. There are many different types of recipes for takoyaki and everyone has their favorite.
Step2
Buy a takoyaki plate. No matter what recipe you use for takoyaki, you will need a takoyaki plate for your party. You want the dish to look presentable, not just thrown together.
Step3
Find proper dishes and silverware for the party. This is the kind of meal that deserves to be served on decent kitchenware, not paper plates with plastic forks.

Throwing the party

Step1
Create an invitee list with friends who know takoyaki or are adventurous enough to try the dish with you.
Step2
Set a time and place for the party, most likely at your house or that of a friend. Invite your guests.
Step3
Put on some upbeat music during the party. This isn't meant to be a drawing-room affair.
Step4
Dine with your friends and enjoy the sensation of takoyaki.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't invite too many people. This isn't a regular dinner party where you can make multiple dishes in mass quantities.
