The key to the Coin Paper Fold trick is the way a coin is folded inside a paper square. Although your audience will think the coin is trapped inside the folds, there is a secret opening so you can remove the coin, and then make the audience believe it has disappeared.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Five-inch square piece of paper
  • Heavy coin
  1. Step 1

Present to the audience a coin (heavier coins are preferred) and a square piece of paper, with side lengths around five inches.

  2. Step 2

Lay the paper on the table, and put the coin in the center. Fold the bottom third of the paper and crease it so the coin is hidden.

  3. Step 3

Pick the paper and coin up from the table, and hold it with your left fingers and thumb holding the coin (through the paper). Fold the right third of the paper back (away from you).

  4. Step 4

Fold the left third of the paper back (away from you). You should still be holding the coin between your thumb and fingers. Fold the top half of the remaining paper (it should be a rectangle) down and away from you (towards your audience).

  5. Step 5

Tell the audience that the coin is now safely enclosed in the folds of the paper. While telling them, switch the paper from your left hand to your right, and rotate it so that the top of the paper is now the bottom.

  6. Step 6

Relax your hold on the coin, and it should slip out of an opening in the packet. Hold the paper so that when the coin comes out, you can conceal it in your hand.

  7. Step 7

Transfer the now empty paper back to your left hand. You can either reach into your pocket with your right hand to bring out your "wand" and leave the coin in your pocket, or you can simply keep it hidden for the remainder of the trick. Show the paper to the audience, and then rip it up. They will see that the coin has disappeared.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with different ways of hiding the coin after it has slipped from the packet. After a bit of practice, you can perform this trick flawlessly.
