How to Dust a Room Properly

Dusting a room is one of the most unpopular household chores, but we just have to force ourselves to do it. Dust accumulation can lead to aggravated allergies and a generally unpleasant atmosphere. Here's how to dust a room without turning it into heavy lifting. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the room entirely. This requires moving furniture as well as smaller items in the room, and you may need a helping hand. Put on some good music or a movie to entertain yourself while dusting.

    • 2

Clean out all closets in the room and put everything outside of the closets while dusting. Close and seal off the closets.

    • 3

Remove rugs and other floor accessories.

    • 4

Get a dust rag or a feather duster and begin dusting at the highest points of the room such as ceiling fans or the tops of window frames.

    • 5

Scrub and sanitize the woodwork and floors in the room thoroughly to remove all dust which may have accumulated. After dusting, many people forget that the dust eventually settles somewhere. If the room is carpeted, then vacuum the room.

    • 6

If you're using a feather duster and find areas which are particularly dusty, use a rag to clean up the first several layers of dust. Otherwise, you may end up just disturbing the dust and sending it in to the air, rather than cleaning the surface.

    • 7

Wipe wood, tile or linoleum floors with appropriate cleaning solution.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the room is extremely dusty, wear a facial mask or a piece of cloth tied over your mouth and nose to avoid excessive dust inhalation.
