How to Become a Certified Kickboxing Instructor

Teaching a kickboxing class is hard work and requires studying and practicing extensively. Kickboxing is a high intensity cardio martial art. Because of its quick results, kickboxing has become increasingly popular. Instructing kickboxing requires physical fitness, the ability to teach, and the ability to correctly perform several martial arts moves.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain clearance from a doctor. Instructing any fitness class is extremely strenuous, and a full workup should be done by a doctor to ensure that the body can handle it. Undergo joint mobility testing, bloodwork to ensure no underlying problems, and a general assessment of current problems and conditions.

    • 2

Sign up to take a kickboxing certification exam. Several websites offer testing that can be done by distance, consisting of a written exam and some form of visual test done by videotaping and/or photographing.

    • 3

Take time on the test to ensure that all answers are correct. In general, 90 days are given to take the written exam. Go over the test several times to double check the answers. Research thoroughly anything that is questionable. Retesting can normally be done for around $50, where just incorrect answers are corrected.

    • 4

Practice the moves required to pass the visual exam. Practice with a mirror to make sure they are being done correctly. Review the tapes and photographs to be sent and make sure form and position are correct. Retape the moves if necessary.

    • 5

Retake the exam if necessary. Since the retest is roughly only 10 percent of the cost of the full course, it is well worth the money if the option is offered.
