Call the main information number at (888) 425-2666. Also, you can find a meeting at al-anon.alateen.org.
-
2
Pick a meeting that is close to your home at a convenient time. Many meetings are at the same time and place of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and you might go with your alcoholic friend or family member if he is in recovery.
-
-
3
Go to the meeting early so that you might talk to others. Get comfortable in the setting before the meeting starts.
-
4
Introduce yourself during the meeting when the chairperson asks for newcomers. This introduction will let others know that you are new, and they will make themselves available to answer questions.
-
5
Try various meetings for about a month. Go to these meetings until you find one that you like.
-
6
Ask the chairperson after the meeting how that particular group accepts new members. Many groups just ask you to sign up. Others require you to attend a business meeting first.
-
7
Get involved after you have signed up. Learn about the various service opportunities by attending business meetings and by asking the person whom you have asked to be your sponsor. With membership comes more responsibility, including showing up at the group each week for the meeting.
