After a few months of sleeping and eating, babies become more interested in you and the world around them. They may be happy simply looking around them, following what is going on, but there are times when they may need a little assistance to stay entertained. Read on to learn how to entertain an infant.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to the baby. No matter what you are doing, continue a conversation with the child to keep he or she engaged. They will likely follow you with curious eyes, learning from every movement and sound.

  2. Step 2

Let baby explore. To babies, the world is a classroom. Place them on a blanket with a variety of toys and watch them explore. They may be as interested in their fingers and toes than the toys around them, but they learn from it all.

  3. Step 3

Soothe the baby with a swing. Many babies love the motion of a indoor infant swing. It can keep them preoccupied for hours and even lull them to sleep.

  4. Step 4

Help them make noise. Babies' abilities differ at different stages of development, but they usually like noise. When they start to coo and babble, gently touch their mouth and then remove your hand, repeating the motion, causing the sounds from their little mouth to make a vibrating sound. Many infants get a kick out of the sounds that this makes. Giving them rattles, or a spoon and plastic container to tap are also fun.

  5. Step 5

Give them something new to touch. Maybe it is a soft blanket, a box or a cereal bowl. The differences in texture help the child to learn about the world around them.

  6. Step 6

Encourage the baby to sit, roll over, move and climb as they develop.
