How to Survive Air Force Boot Camp
The U.S. Air Force (USAF) changed its Basic Military Training (BMT) curriculum in November 2005. The program focuses on training a "new kind of airman" who is a "warrior first." USAF BMT is grueling. Training stresses you and wears you down, all with the goal of transforming you into a top-notch airman. To survive basic training, start preparing long before you leave for Lackland Air Force Base. The following can help you prepare and avoid pitfalls.
Instructions

-
1
Cultivate a "can do" mindset. A wait of up to 12 months between "delayed entry enlistment" and departure for BMT gives you plenty of time for physical conditioning. At BMT, be prepared to meet the entry standards for running, sit-ups and push-ups.
-
2
Ask family and friends to write while you are in basic training. Give everyone your address at Lackland Air Force Base. Tell them you won't have much time to write, but how important it is for your morale and survival to have their support.
-
-
3
Blend in with military standards. Arrive at BMT, with a conservative haircut and dress with in proper attire. Speak only when spoken to by commanding officers.
-
4
Pack items on the "allowed list." Contraband starts your military career with a lot of negative attention.
-
5
Memorize the ranks and insignia of USAF officers and enlisted personnel. You are required to know basic history and traditions of the Air Force, the Airman's Creed and the first verse of the USAF Song. Learn the attention and parade stances, which are the same across the armed forces.
-
6
Expect BMT classes in "Basic Field Security," "Role of the Warrior," "Basic Self Defense, Basic Leadership, " Combat Recovery," weapons safety and war skills. The new curriculum aims to prepare Airmen for an "Expeditionary Air Force."
-
7
Ship to Tech School the Monday after graduation for specialized training for your Air Force assignment. Tech schools are located all over the country and offer programs that last 12 weeks to a year.
