Deer hunting is one of the most challenging outdoor sports. The patience, stealth and wilderness savvy required to successful hunt deer make it frustrating, yet ultimately one of the most rewarding of outdoor sport opportunities. By an intelligent use of different techniques, you can quickly increase your chances for successfully attracting a deer. Read on to learn how to attract deer.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cover your natural human scent with some other game scent naturally occurring in the area you intend to hunt. Popular choices include fox urine and doe in estrous scents.

  2. Step 2

Locate a hunting area that yields a ready supply of food for deer. Oak groves are often sought out because of deer's preference for acorns.

  3. Step 3

Consider the benefits of an elevated stand. By positioning yourself up a tree you are more likely to avoid detection by smell, hearing or sight.

  4. Step 4

Employ a grunt call to attract aggressive bucks during the time of the rut. These calls are soft and guttural and comprise the majority of normal deer communication. The calls are available from outdoor sport supply stores.

  5. Step 5

Enhance the draw to your area by employing a rattling bag, a device that simulates two male deer sparring. This can attract bigger bucks intent on running inferior males off of his territory.

  6. Step 6

Repeat the deer's warning snort if spotted and the deer spooks. Repeating the snort often confuses the animal and draws them back to investigate the scene of their disquiet.

  7. Step 7

Expect a long wait before deer regularly frequent your chosen area as they are very particular and wily animals. Hunting is a sport that requires a great deal of mental endurance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice remaining still for long periods of time before making your hunting trip. Deer can detect the slightest unnatural movement and flee before you become aware of their presence.
