Work From an Entry-Level Position to Management

Step1
Start your quest to become a warehouse manager by working in an entry-level position within a warehouse with room for growth. As you master your entry-level job, apply for a position with more responsibility, such as a shift supervisor or even as an assistant warehouse manager.
Step2
Familiarize yourself with every aspect of working and running a warehouse as you take on more responsibility. Let your supervisors know your goals and ask to work in every facet of the warehouse, from shipping and receiving to picking and packing orders and shipments. This will help to ensure that you are more readily prepared to become a warehouse manager.
Step3
Build positive, professional relationships with coworkers, management, customers and vendors while working in an entry-level position. As you increase your responsibility and take on new positions, these relationships may make your transition into the role of management smoother.

Take Classes to Help Obtain a Position as a Warehouse Manager

Step1
Take basic computer classes for programs such as Microsoft office. Many warehouses are run on a computer-operating system, reducing the chances of human error in picking and packing orders. Your position may also include the responsibility of payroll, which is often done on computers.
Step2
Enroll in communication classes that will help you build strong, working relationships with the employees you will supervise as a warehouse manager. Many community colleges and online universities are now offering these classes without requiring students to formally enroll in degree programs.
Step3
Pursue a business degree when attending university. There are 2 to 4-year choices, depending on your commitment of time and money. Seeking a business degree can help you learn to manage employees, make schedules, operate computer systems and develop problem-solving skills.

Tips & Warnings
