How to Write a Resume for a Hotel Management Job
Hotel management has become a hot field. Today's hotel managers not only oversee the day-to-day activities of a hotel and its employees, but they also manage accounting, marketing and customer service. Depending on their position, they may also need to regulate the maintenance of the building, ensure security and train staff members.

-
1
Use active language as you write your resume. Instead of saying you worked with customers, say you acted as host and entertainment manager. Because a job in hotel management has much to do with keeping visitors happy, using the right wording can transmit the feeling that you know how to deal with people properly and professionally.
-
2
Focus on what you did for the company rather than simply saying you worked in hotel management. Use keywords such as "Departmental Management" to say you were in charge of employees and "Control of Inventories" to explain that you approved sales. The right wording can make a big difference in how you are perceived.

3
Provide examples of ongoing career development. If you don't have a degree in hotel management or hospitality, you should seriously consider attending workshops or taking specialized classes through a local college. Even if this is done for a few hours over a weekend, it can still look impressive on your resume.
-
4
Consult the Hotels Jobs Network to review hundreds of posted resumes and see what others with similar experience are doing (see Resources below). This is also helpful to learn appropriate keywords to set on your resume and to find alternative wording to better express your job and qualifications.
-
5
Let the employer know what other areas you can handle besides management. Write about your office skills, your ability to deal with the public and your extensive experience with international clientèle. Knowledge of a foreign language and foreign travel experience are also a plus, as they show that you understand foreign culture and can perform a better job when it comes to dealing with a mixed population.

Tips & Warnings
Many hotels frequently host conferences, lectures and special events. When that happens, a hotel manager is usually somewhat involved in clearing permits and handling organization details. If you worked at a place where you were in charge of those activities, make sure to write them into your resume.
