Step 1
Choose your material. Since most Ivy League graduation ceremonies it is spring, stay away from heavy fabrics, such as wool, that are more commonly worn in the winter or fall. Instead, choose a lighter fabric like cotton or linen.
-
Step 2
Pick your color. A dark color is best, but lighter colors will work as long as you avoid colors that are too loud or bright.
-
Step 3
Select a style. A classic style is best, like a single breasted, three-button jacket. Again, your personal preference is probably fine as long as it is neither too trendy nor too dated.
-
Step 4
Make the appropriate alterations. Sometimes making a few adjustments will take your look from ho-hum to ivy league. Having the best suit won't do much for you if it doesn't fit right. If you are buying new, the salespeople will more than likely suggest any alterations that need to be made. If you are going to wear something you already have, take it to a tailor if the sleeves are too long or if your pants need to be taken in.
