Pennsylvania ranks among the top 10 of highest paid teachers. That's good news for you, but better news for the children who live there. The state is attracting highly qualified teachers and the incentives to bring them there are abundant.

Instructions

Decide how quickly you would like to enter the classroom. Pennsylvania offers an Intern Program that allows students who have a bachelor degree in a field that relates to the area they wish to teach in to enter the classroom for two years while working on the teacher preparation program. There are specific requirements, and a limited number of universities participate in the Intern Program. Check the Pennsylvania Department of Education website for a listing of schools and an application.

Enroll in a Teacher Preparation Program through an accredited university. Visit Pennsylvania's DOE website for links to universities offering this program.

    • 3

Take the Praxis I and II tests. Praxis I measures reading, writing and mathematic skills while Praxis II is an assessment test specific to the area of study that you want to teach.

    • 4

Review the Pennsylvania DOE's website for new requirements. Grade point minimums have gone up and certain courses and hours are required for a teaching certificate. The state also abides by an Interstate Certificate Agreement with certain requirements, but not all parts of the Interstate Certificate Agreement are valid in Pennsylvania.
