Security comes in more ways than just a paycheck. For some, benefits are a huge factor in deciding where they want to work. Nebraska has been paying attention and offers some great benefits to would-be teachers. For those who are willing to seek higher education, the benefits increase. Good news if Nebraska is in your future.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Begin the process of obtaining teacher education training. An Initial Teaching Certificate in Nebraska is valid for 5 years. Nebraska does not offer an early entry certificate, however a provisional 1 year certificate can be obtained after half of the teacher education described in Step 2 is completed.
Step2
Enroll in a Nebraska Teacher Preparation Program through an accredited university. Visit Nebraska's Department of Education's website for links to universities offering this program.
Step3
Complete a special education course at the university where Teacher Preparation Classes are offered. Even if your specialty is not special education, at least one course is required that deals with an exceptional child in the classroom.
Step4
Take the Praxis I test. This is a pre-assessment test that measures reading, writing and mathematic skills to make sure they meet the state of Nebraska's requirements. Your scores will automatically be forwarded to the state when your test is completed.
Step5
Give your university the Institutional Verification Form found on Nebraska's Department of Education's website. The form must be completed by an officer at the university and sent in along with your application.
Step6
Fill out the application for license. Include the applicable licensing fees, an official copy of your college transcripts and the appropriate criminal history information or forms listed on the Nebraska DOE website. Additional fees may be required if you lived outside the state of Nebraska, so be sure to go through the checklist provided on the website.
