How to Get a Hunting License in Arizona
Most people think about hunting in Arizona and pictures of snakes and scorpions come to mind, but in actuality Arizona has a full card of game that hunters can choose from. Hunters can stalk animals from Black bears to Elk as long as they have their licenses and are in the right season. The Arizona Game and Wildlife Department take conservation seriously and do not hesitate to prosecute hunting offenders.

Obtain a new set of Arizona hunting rules each year in the Arizona Hunting and Trapping Regulations. Rules on what can be hunted and hunting dates change yearly depending on the growth of population of the hunted game.

Decide what animals you want to hunt. There is a list of animal game to choose from in the yearly Arizona Hunting and Trapping Regulation book. The game you choose determines the type of license you'll need.

Apply for, receive and validate your license, tags and permits. There are 340 vendors in the state that a hunter can go to get a hunting license. Most are popular sports stores. Hunters can also apply online for their licenses and at the Arizona Department of Game and Wildlife.

Validate your license. Some of the game that is legal to hunt requires hunters to purchase stamps or stamp privileges. Without these stamps your license is not valid. Tags and permits are another purchase a hunter must make when hunting big game, pheasants and sand-hill cranes. Permits are given out on a drawing basis. You list the game, time and area you want to hunt in the order of preference and your name must be drawn for what is available.

Take the license with you when you go out on the hunt.

Hunt only where and when you were picked to hunt. The boundaries of the Game Management Units are listed in the Arizona Hunting and Trapping Regulation book. Which GMU you are allowed to hunt in is listed on your license or tag. Be sure that you are hunting in your season and in your area.

Transport your kill according to the rules that Arizona has set for the year. The rules are detailed in the Arizona Hunting and Trapping Regulation book. Depending on infractions from previous years, the transporting rules can and do change so be prepared before you go.
