  1. Step 1

Take the initiative and discuss the main causes of STDs and preventive measures with your doctor. Educate yourself by reading health magazines or joining sexual health awareness groups. Contact the hospitals in your area or search the newspaper to find seminars.

  2. Step 2

Create a healthy lifestyle by avoiding multiple sexual partners and casual involvements. Practice safe sex by using latex contraceptives.

  3. Step 3

Talk with your partner about the risks involved with various sexual practices. Ask your partner to get tested for STDs before you proceed further in the relationship.

  4. Step 4

Avoid contact with your partner's bodily secretions to prevent the transmission of infections. Use spermicides for increased protection against sexually transmitted diseases.

  5. Step 5

Refrain from using IV drugs and sharing needles. Some STDs are transmitted through blood.

  6. Step 6

When donating blood, ensure that the clinic uses new, disposable syringes and needles. Make sure the technician uses all necessary precautions when drawing your blood.

  7. Step 7

Visit your doctor once every six months for a full check up. Such visits help in the diagnosis of diseases in their early stages. Report to your doctor any kind of unusual discharge burning, itching or visible growth in or around your genital area.
