Things You'll Need:

  • Photos
  • Album pages
  1. Step 1

Choose the photos you plan to place on a scrapbook page. Generally, you want to select photos that represent a theme or an event. If you have too many photos to fit on one page, consider adding several pages to an existing album or creating a separate album.

  2. Step 2

Concentrate on one page or a spread of two pages at a time. Depending upon your scrapbooking style, you want to have two side-by-side pages face each other.

  3. Step 3

Lay your photos out in a rough format to get an idea of placement. When you have multiple photos on one page, you will need to select paper that flatters all pictures collectively.

  4. Step 4

Determine what colors stand out in your photos. If there is a specific color that appears in each photo and stands out, like the color of a person's shirt or a bright blue sky, then you will select paper that matches or compliments the colors.

  5. Step 5

Visit a craft supply store that carries different varieties of acid-free paper and embellishments and bring your photos with you. It is important to purchase acid-free products to preserve the quality of your photos.

  6. Step 6

Look for complimentary colors that make your photos stand out. You can find paper in virtually any color so take your time in selecting paper that fits your style. If your photos are simple, think about using a patterned or textured paper.

  7. Step 7

Pick out one piece of paper to use as the background. If you prefer, you may also select paper to mount on the back of one or more photos for more contrast or visual appeal.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find it difficult to choose colors, consider purchasing a color wheel with information on complimentary and contrasting colors.
