Night sweats are categorized by frequent sweating that occurs during the nighttime hours. Night sweats can be caused by several medical conditions. The most common causes of night sweats are menopause, bacterial infections, cancer and reactions to certain medications. If the night sweats are becoming disruptive, you should seek treatment.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Turn down the thermostat. A too warm room can trigger a person to have night sweats. If you have a programmable thermostat, set it to drop during the evening hours.
Step2
Use a light sheet. Heavy blankets make night sweats worse. Using a light sheet in a breathable fabric may cure the night sweats.
Step3
Take a cold shower. Cold showers taken right before bed can stop night sweats from occurring.
Step4
Speak to your doctor. Your doctor will want to determine the cause of the night sweats. Once a cause is determined, he will advise on treatment. Your doctor may change your medications or request further tests.
Step5
Let the doctor know any other symptoms that you are having. If you also have a fever and have lost weight, it can be a sign of a serious condition.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should change your bedding often if you suffer from night sweats. This is for hygienic and sanitary purposes.
  • To cool down from night sweats, have a cold drink or take a cool water bath.
  • To check to see if a fever is the cause of your night sweats, take your temperature in the early evening hours. Record your temperature for several days and report your findings to your physician.
