Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

Research your state's homeschooling regulations. Each state has its own laws regulating aspects of homeschooling, from attendance to evaluation testing and subject requirements. To find a comprehensive list of each state's requirements, visit the Homeschool Legal Defense Association's website.

  2. Step 2

Look on the Internet for homeschooling-related websites dedicated to reviewing homeschool curricula. There are many resources that can be found online, including FamilyEducation.com and HomeschoolLearning.com.

  3. Step 3

Talk to other parents who homeschool. There are often local homeschooling groups that meet on a regular basis to provide support for parents and activities for the kids. Online homeschooling sites, like HomeschoolForums.com, are another option.

  4. Step 4

Try out a curriculum. Many parents begin with a prepackaged curriculum, provided by a major educational institution, but move toward their own plans, as they become more comfortable with their teaching abilities. Complete curriculum packages can be found on several websites, including Abeka.com.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy teaching your kids. As you become more familiar with the homeschooling process, you will be able to experience the joy of watching your children grow and learn.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you become more experienced with educating your kids at home, you may want to experiment with different homeschool philosophies like unschooling, eclectic homeschooling and classical homeschooling.
  • Follow your state's regulations. Not following these procedures can result in criminal charges against you.
