How to Care for a Camera Lens
Since the advent of disposable and small digital cameras, people have grown less accustomed to having to care for their cameras. Especially difficult for some is to go to the trouble of caring for individual parts of the camera. However, if one is using a professional or personal camera with a detachable lens, then lens care is essential in order to take good pictures.

Tips & Warnings
In dusty or sandy conditions, try to keep a filter on the lens.
Always close at least one latch on a lens case.
Protect all lenses from shock.
Sometimes manufacturers don't tend to put a lot of care into the creation of a lens cap. This unassuming bit of plastic can be your best friend when it comes to lens care. If yours becomes worn out, good dealers will stock replacements.
Consider using a Skylight or a UV filter as full-time protection for your lens. Shoot your pictures through it and remove it only when using another filter for special effect.
Protect lenses from shock at all times.
Never clean a lens with dry lens tissue.
Never put lens fluid on a lens; put it on the lens tissue.
Never use eyeglass cleaning cloth; it may contain silicon.
Never use rubber cement or nail polish to attach a filter to the rear of the lens, use 1/2 inch ATG (Scotch ATG-924) otherwise known as transfer tape or "snot tape."
Changing lenses with a digital SLR can be particularly harmful to the lens, as it allows dust to enter the system.
