Step 1
Decide where you'll put your container flower garden. Patios, decks and entryways are all popular places. The size and number of containers you need, will be determined by where you're going to put them.
-
Step 2
Buy the containers. Get a variety of sizes and shapes, so that you can mix them up. Good focal points include a large container with several smaller ones clustered around it, tall and short, side by side and contrasting colors, textures and designs.
-
Step 3
Arrange your containers. Try many different combinations to find the look that you like the best. You're the designer, so lay out your containers the way you want.
-
Step 4
Buy the plants and potting soil. Many plants take well to containers; some of the most popular are African daisies, petunias, Red Fountain grass and canna lilies. These are upright plants and can be placed in the center of containers with trailing plants around the edges.
-
Step 5
Plant the flowers in your containers. Try different combinations of flowers in each container for truly spectacular and vibrant displays. Your imagination is the limit.
