Maybe you're restoring an older porcelain tub with decals, or maybe you had the decals for your children who are now all grown and want to replace the whimsical design with something that fits your style. Maybe you just want to remove them to add some new non-slip product. Whatever the case, removing bath tub decals is quite simple.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lift up the corners or edges of the decal. The decal is designed to withstand water, so the adhesive you are trying to remove is stuck under two layers of protection. In order to get the solution to eat away at the adhesive it must be exposed.

  2. Step 2

Heat household vinegar in a small container. Be careful of the strong fumes that are released when the vinegar is heated because they can burn your nose.

  3. Step 3

Pour some of the heated vinegar over a sponge and apply it to the decals. You can squeeze some of the liquid onto the decal and then allow the sponge to sit over each one for a few minutes.

  4. Step 4

Peel the decal off starting with the first one you soaked. Gently lift one of the corners up and see how much of the decal peels off. The vinegar may not have been able to penetrate the center of the decal so peel off as much as you can then repeat Steps 2 and 3 if necessary.

  5. Step 5

Spray a stain remover such as Shout, Spray-n-Wash or Goo Gone if the vinegar is not affecting the adhesive. Again, the solution needs to be in contact with the adhesive so spray the solution under the corners and edges and apply a thick layer over the entire decal and let it sit for an hour or two.

  6. Step 6

Rub off any remaining adhesive with a cloth or with your fingers. Sometimes adhesive rolls into balls when rubbed and can then be easily wiped away.

  7. Step 7

Scour the tub with a powdered cleanser to remove any residual adhesive, vinegar or cleaning solution. If new decals are being applied, this residual must be removed so the new decals stick.
