Homemade ginger tea is one of the best remedies for a cold, sore throat and indigestion. The tea has a calming effect and helps increase blood circulation in the body. It also serves as a soothing and enjoyable winter drink. There is more than one way to make ginger tea. Read on to see which method you prefer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 3 to 4 Cups of water
  • 1-1/2 Piece of ginger root
  • Honey, lemon, or sugar (optional)
  • Tea ball (optional)

Step1
Wash the ginger root thoroughly. Peel away the skin. Cut it into long, thin strips. This helps the ginger to quickly dissolve its essence when used in the tea.
Step2
Boil water in a sauce pan. Once it starts to boil, add the ginger strips. Cover the sauce pan and let it simmer for at least 20 minutes. Once done, filter the water through a sieve or strainer. Add lemon or honey if you like.
Step3
Place the ginger strips in a teapot and then pour boiling water into the pot. Cover and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain before drinking. Add lemon or honey if you prefer.
Step4
Place the ginger in a tea ball. Put the tea ball in a cup and add boiling water. Cover the cup with a saucer or small plate for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the tea ball and add lemon or honey if you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use fresh ingredients for a better flavor.
  • Do not add sugar if you are using the ginger tea as a remedy for cold or flu.
  • Avoid ginger tea if you have a high fever or ulcer.
  • Consult your physician before drinking ginger tea if you are pregnant.
