There are plenty of things to do in the winter time. You can snowboard, ski, ice skate and even camp. The greatest thing about camping in the snow is that there are no mosquitoes. You also have a softer cushion beneath your tent. Follow these steps to learn how to camp in the snow.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Dress for the weather. You need to dress in layers when camping in the snow. It needs to insulate you and protect you from the elements as well as be breathable. Synthetics are recommended because they pull the moisture from your body instead of holding it against you.
Step2
Sleep in a three-season sleeping bag and layer it with a liner. Use a bag cover or a bivy. This will up the temperature rating of your sleeping bag.
Step3
Place your tent on a blue tarp to protect it from freezing to the top layer of the snow and to add a small amount of insulation. If you don't have a four-season tent then cover your sleeping bag with some sort of sleeping bag cover because you might get moisture on it from condensation in your tent.
Step4
Make sure your tent fly is tight. It will need to be able to either support the weight of the snow or allow the snow to slide off. Use snow pegs instead of regular tent pegs to support the tent fly.
Step5
Use a snow stand for your camping stove so it doesn't melt right through the snow. Bring plenty of fuel because besides regular cooking you will also need it to melt the snow for water.
