Things You'll Need:
- 25.5-by-37.5-inch piece of plywood
- 10 feet of 1-by-3-inch soft pine
- 6 pieces of 1 foot-square vinyl floor covering
- Wood screws
- 16 feet of wire grid garden fencing, 2 feet wide with 1-by-2-inch holes
- Drill
- Wire snips
-
Step 1
Build the base of the mink housing. Lay out the plywood and cut the 1-by-3-inch pieces of wood to fit along the edge of the plywood making a tray. The inside dimensions of the tray when finished will be 2-by-3 feet. Screw the pieces together.
-
Step 2
Cover the bottom of the tray with the vinyl flooring. Glue them down unless your flooring is already sticky on one side.
-
Step 3
Cut three pieces of fencing. The first piece of fencing will be 2-feet long, the second is 3-feet long and the third is 10-foot-2-inches long. The 3 feet of fencing has smooth edges, the 2-feet piece has the wires sticking out on both ends and the 10-foot-2-inch piece has one end smooth and one end with wires. There will be one foot of wire left over that will be used for a door.
-
Step 4
Bend the long piece of wire into right angled corners between the cross wires at the 2-feet, 5-feet and 7-feet points. This will make a 2-by-3-feet rectangle.
-
Step 5
Provide protection from the sharp edges however you feel best to protect the minks. You can cover them with soft vinyl tubing or tape them with duct tape. Just make sure they can't cut you or your minks.
-
Step 6
Attach the 3-foot and 2-foot piece of fencing to the main part of the cage to make a two level cage. The 3-foot piece is the top of the cage and the 2-foot piece is the second level. Connect the main part of the cage at the corner. Bend the wires into loops over the edge of the main part of the cage. Tape them off or cover with tubing.
-
Step 7
Design a hole in the door of the mink housing. Cut a hole in the side of the housing that is 4 inches from the bottom. Use the extra piece of fencing for the door and attach it to the side of the house with hinges. Use a clip to close it.
