How to Plan a Sledding Trip

Snow brings out the child in all of us. Snow sledding is great fun wherever there is a hill. For more excitement and adventure, plan a sledding trip to a mountain or a park with large hills. Sled down a large hill for the ride of your life.

Things You'll Need:

  • Sleds
  • Winter clothes
  • Cooler
  • Snacks
  • Thermos
  • Hot cocoa
  • Blankets
  • First-aid kit
  1. Step 1

    Find areas with large hills. Ask if sledding is allowed in the area.

  2. Step 2

    Purchase sleds early in the season. Find sleds at toy stores and home improvement shops. Purchase inner tubes from tire dealers if sleds are not available.

  3. Step 3

    Pack a cooler full of snacks and drinks. Fill a Thermos with hot cocoa.

  4. Step 4

    Gather snow pants, jackets, gloves, hats and boots for everyone. Pack a few extras just in case there is a need.

  5. Step 5

    Prepare for unexpected emergencies. Pack blankets and a first-aid kit in the car.

  6. Step 6

    Pack bicycle helmets for everyone. Put helmets on all sledding participants before they go down the hill.

  7. Step 7

    Avoid crowds by going early in the day. Leave before dark when roads are clear and easily seen.

  • Check with local ski resorts for sledding hills.
  • Go sledding during the middle of the week for smaller crowds.
  • Go sledding just after a fresh snow for the best runs.
