Fox hunting, unlike most other forms of hunting, is not done for the meat. When people hunt foxes it's either for the pelt or the sport of it. Some avid fox hunters also believe that the foxes are responsible for the decline of some of the native species of Australian wildlife. Follow these steps to learn how to hunt foxes.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide if you're hunting for the sport or for the pelt. If you're hunting for the sport than any sort of rifle will do just fine. If you're hunting for the pelt then use a .22 rim fire or a small caliber centrefire such as .17, .22 hornet or a .223. These rifles do not cause much damage to the pelt.

  2. Step 2

Hunt for foxes during the winter months if you are hunting for pelts. Their pelts are thickest and look their best in the winter.

  3. Step 3

Dress in clothes that blend in with the environment that you are hunting in. Foxes can be found in many different environments from pastoral regions to dry, arid regions.

  4. Step 4

Look for fox excretions. Foxes do not really leave tracks because the bottom of their feet are heavily padded. The tracks that they do leave can be easily confused with those of a dog.

  5. Step 5

Whistle for the foxes. Position yourself up against a tree with nothing behind you and whistle in a series of piercing loud shrieks as if you're a rabbit being attacked. Give time for the fox to come to you before you whistle again because he can hear you up to 2 miles away.
