Buy in volume. Volume licensing can make a significant difference on the cost per software package. Companies can often leverage their size by placing an order for multiple packages at once. Many software publishers have volume tiers for pricing or multi-packs of software licenses that are heavily discounted.

Make a commitment. This works especially well if you're a company instead of an individual. Some companies can commit to a software publisher that they via a forecasted contract and this can allow a pricing discount up front. By using this method, you receive volume pricing today for a single package of software because you commit to buying a specific quantity over a contract period.

Upgrade old packages. Many people and companies buy a brand new package of software when they could be eligible for an upgrade. Ask the software vendor if an upgrade package is available when you have an older version of the software.
