How to Save for College with Upromise

A great way to save for your child's college education is with the Upromise program. Hundreds of companies are involved in the program. You purchase products or services from a company involved and they give a percentage of what you spent back as a rebate. The money is deposited into an account for your child's college. The money can be used towards all educational expenses including, tuition, books and housing. Read on to learn more.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Sign-up at the Upromise website. You will need to register with a user name and a password. You will need this password in the future to access your account.

  2. Step 2

    Register your grocery cards, credit cards and ATM cards that you use to make purchases. When you pay for the selected products with a registered card the purchases are able to be recorded and the rebate can be made.

  3. Step 3

    Invite family and friends to save for your child's education also. They can go to the Upromise website and register their cards and make purchase on products and services with these cards. When they register they fill out the name of your child and the money will be deposited into your child's account.

  4. Step 4

    Print a list of the products that offer rebates when purchased. There are too many to remember. Take the list with you when you do your shopping. Some products also have a Upromise symbol on them.

  5. Step 5

    Start shopping. Upromise has hundreds of products that offer a rebate. They also have restaurants, car repair shops and online stores where a percentage of the purchase is offered back in a rebate.

  6. Step 6

    Check the Upromise website often. New companies are always registering with the site. This will help you stay up to date on where to shop and what products to buy. You can also keep track of your account balance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Upromise has an optional 529 plan to enroll in. The money in your Upromise account is transferred into the 529 college savings plan and invested.
