Download free Skype software from their website or sites like Download.net. Follow the step-by-step instructions on the screen. Make a test call. Adjust your computer settings if you can't hear your voice or if the call doesn't go through.

Make a long-distance phone call. Using the Skype to Skype system, you can call any other registered Skype user by typing in their user ID code and clicking on a call option from one of the drop down menus.

Create a contact list or search for other Skype users via the call box that appears on your screen. Find other Skype users by clicking on the contact menu and choosing "Search."

Organize long-distance conference calls with other Skype users anywhere in the world. Click on the "Create a Conference Call" feature and another box will pop up allowing you to add up to nine Skype registered participants for a conference call.

Use the "Skype Me" feature if you want other Skype members to find you. To prevent users not on your contact list from finding you, exit the "Skype Me" mode.
