Rarely is history dramatically played out in a single event. But in 1989 that is exactly what happened with the fall of the Berlin Wall. A physical structure symbolizing the Cold War and its worldwide polarization was crushed by sledgehammers, pickaxes, crowbars and torn apart by human hands. Its destruction heralded the end of the war and the reunification of Germany. Read on to learn more.

Step1
Familiarize yourself with the timeline of the Berlin Wall.
Step2
Study a more detailed history of the wall's construction, the impact it had on German life and its political implications.
Step3
Take a virtual tour of the wall through time and space. Discover where its last remains are are situated. They are marked red on the map.
Step4
Print out a map of the three tours described in the virtual tour for future reference.
Step5
Visit the website for the Documentation center, a place that contains an historical museum, a chapel and a memorial. It also has some standing wall within a short walk of the memorial center.
Step6
Visit Berlin armed with an understanding of the Berlin Wall, how it fell, why it fell and how to visit its remnants, historical monuments and museums.
