Teething babies love to chew on hard cookies. Chewing helps relieve the pain and keeps babies from crying. The teething biscuits at the stores, however, cost enough to make mom and dad start crying instead. Here are some quick, homemade teething biscuits that will make everyone much happier.

Things You'll Need:

  • Quick cooking oats
  • Salt
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground ginger
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Baking powder
  • 2 overripe bananas
  • Vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil

  • Timer
  • Grinder or food processor for oats
  • Rubber bowl scraper
  • Wire cookie rack

  1. Step 1

Grind up enough oats to make 1 cup of oat flour. Make it as fine as you can get it in your grinder or food processor.

  2. Step 2

Combine 1 cup of whole oats, 1 cup of oat flour, 1/4 tsp. of any or all of the spices and 1 tsp. baking soda in a large bowl. Set it aside for a moment.

  3. Step 3

Mash up the overripe bananas in a medium bowl. Add 1 tsp. vanilla extract and 3 tbsp. vegetable oil to the mashed bananas.

  4. Step 4

Scrape out the bananas into the flour mixture and stir together. Drop the dough onto a parchment lined or greased baking sheet with a spoon.

  5. Step 5

Bake the drops at 350 degrees F for 12 to 15 minutes.

  6. Step 6

Cool the drops on a wire rack and store in an airtight container. Give one to your baby the next time he or she wants something to chew on.

Tips & Warnings
  • Substitute 1 cup applesauce if you do not have bananas ready for this recipe.
  • Avoid adding wheat or eggs to teething biscuits or cookies for your baby. These ingredients can trigger food sensitivities if introduced to your baby before his or her first birthday.
