How to Join Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a worldwide organization of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. Their mission is to not only research by take action when they learn about human rights violations. Finding information about Amnesty International or joining an international or local chapter only takes a few minutes but can make a lasting impression.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Check to see if an Amnesty International group exists at your college or university. Call the campus operator for a phone number or browse a list of active groups and clubs at your student center.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the Amnesty International website (see Resources below). Click the "Act Now" button at the top of the homepage to learn more about current campaigns and political action opportunities.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "Join Now" button on the right of the "Act Now" page to join Amnesty International. Enter your country of residence to begin the registration process.

  4. Step 4

    Fill in the application. It asks for your name, contact information, type of membership you wish to purchase, and your credit card number. After completing the form, select the "Donate" button at the bottom of the form to submit your application.

  5. Step 5

    Contact your local Amnesty International office for information about volunteer opportunities, local chapters and other regional information. Access Amnesty International's United States website (see Resources below). Float your cursor over the "What You Can Do" header. Choose "Act Locally" from the drop-down menu. Select "Find a Group" from the menu on the left side of the page. Choose your state and then find the group closest to you from the list provided.

Tips & Warnings
  • To find information about a specific issue, visit Amnestyusa.org. Select the issue from the "Select an Issue" drop-down menu or choose a location from the "Choose a Country" drop-down menu in the "What's Going on Where" box. The site allows you to join Amnesty International, donate to the organization, find events and sign online petitions.
