With rising political unrest and rabid admirers, high profile people often need protection. One solution is to hire a bodyguard or personal protection specialist. With the growing demand for bodyguards, there is a greater need for those who are well trained. Although there is not a national standard, there are organizations and schools that can prepare you.

  1. Step 1

    Graduate from high school or complete a G.E.D. Attend a community or four-year university. Many training programs require college graduates.

  2. Step 2

    Plan regular workouts to get into shape or to maintain athletic condition.

  3. Step 3

    Take the necessary training to know how to handle firearms expertly. Skill matters for elite bodyguards.

  4. Step 4

    Enroll in a self-defense program, and study until you are an expert.

  5. Step 5

    Consider enrolling in a school or organization that can prepare you to become a bodyguard, and complete the training.

  6. Step 6

    Apply for jobs with bodyguard companies. Search Google or local yellow pages under bodyguard, personal protection, or security specialist to start your application processes.

  • Enroll in a stunt-driving program. Bodyguards often need to whisk their clients away through a frenzied crowd or escape persistent paparazzi.
  • If being punched, shot at and driving fast frightens you, then you will probably want to rethink your career choice.
  • Do not become personally involved with clients.
