How to Survive a Swim Meet
Like any sporting event, a swim meet is exciting and fun to watch. However, a typical swim meet can run anywhere between 3 to 6 hours, even though the total time your swimmer actually races will probably be less than 15 minutes. It is therefore crucial that you prepare adequately in order to survive a swim meet. You owe it to yourself to make your experience as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
Instructions

1
Pack all supplies needed for the swimmers that will be competing the night before. These include swimsuits, swim caps, goggles, towels, T-shirts, sandals, sunscreen and hats.
-
2
Pack a cooler with sandwiches and healthy snacks such as fruit, granola bars, pretzels and other favorites. Throw in plenty of bottled water, Gatorade or juice to hydrate the body. Don't forget to pack some gum and hard candy.
-
-
3
Bring reading material, hand games or a small pack of cards to keep your swimmer occupied while waiting for his turn to compete. Pack something for yourself as well such as a novel, newspapers or something you need to work on. There will be plenty of down time.
-
4
Take a comfortable portable chair along or bleacher cushions. Sitting on the hard bleachers for hours can be hard on your back. Besides, there may not be seats available.
-
5
Grab a sleeping blanket for little ones to lie on and rest.
-
6
Volunteer to help at the meet if you are able. This will help you pass time and you can learn more about how a swim meet is run.
-
7
Bring writing material so you can record the results. Cheer for your swimmer's teammates as well instead of only for your swimmer. Take it easy, be patient, cheer your swimmer on and have fun.

Tips & Warnings
Bring an extra pair of goggles. It's always good to have a back up.
Pack extra clothing such as a T-Shirt or a sweatshirt in case the weather takes a turn.
Pack an EZ Up tent or portable canopy at the back of your car. You will need it for shade if it's an outdoor meet and it's hot.

Great advice! I would also recommend bringing a canopy (EZ-up). It will give you shade if it hot, keep in warmth if it is cold (if you have the side panels). protect you if it is raining as well as securing an area for swimmer's belongings. Be sure to have comfortable chairs to relax in while you are waiting for their races. To pass the time, we love to bring our knitting/crocheting projects! -
