A Scottish-themed wedding is a great time to serve classic Scottish cuisine. Scottish food is surprisingly diversified and offers selections that will please many palates. Serve this simple five course meal at your reception to compliment your Scottish theme. Many Scottish staples, such as smoked salmon and herring, can be found stateside or imported from Scotland for a reasonable price.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin the meal with appetizers of grilled langoustines with garlic butter, marinated smoked haddock fillets and grilled oysters with heather honey. For beverages, make Glasgow punch, a mixture of water, molasses, orange, lemon and rum.

  2. Step 2

Offer guests a choice of either cabbage and potato soup flavored with caraway or a fresh avocado, spinach and sorrel soup.

  3. Step 3

Serve guests a salad of fresh greens flavored with peanut oil, ginger, black pepper and cloves.

  4. Step 4

Provide guests with a choice of smoked venison and garlic mashed potatoes or a pheasant and wild mushroom ragout for the main course. Offer a vegetarian selection of creamed leeks and baked tomatoes with fresh mint.

  5. Step 5

Pair a rich rhubarb fool (or trifle) with a traditional Scottish fruitcake, or offer homemade scones with a rich butter pudding.

  6. Step 6

Finish the Scottish wedding meal by serving guests hot coffee mixed with malt whiskey, brown sugar and heavy cream for a Highland coffee.

Tips & Warnings
  • Jumbo shrimp can substitute for langoustines.
  • Fruitcake is the traditional wedding cake in Scotland. If you would rather not have a fruitcake, flavor a traditional wedding cake with tastes of Scotland, including highland heather honey, bramble jam or currants.
