Create a Fantasy Football League

Fantasy football is a game whose outcome is based around statistics. It is played by participants choosing NFL or college players for their "fantasy" team and using their stats to determine the winning team. The following are the basics of starting your own fantasy football league.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick a league manager. The manager will be in charge of running the fantasy football league and making sure that all participants abide by the rules.

  2. Step 2

Recruit people to play. Each person that participates will each have their own team. Most people have 12 teams in a fantasy football league.

  3. Step 3

Agree on the rules. Allow everyone that is playing to have a say in league rules. The basic rules should cover any team limitations, scoring and player disputes. Any problems that arise will be handled by the league manager.

  4. Step 4

Hold a draft. The draft involves each participant choosing their team's roster. You can use an online tool like the one on the Draft Wizard website to help you run your fantasy football draft.

  5. Step 5

Follow the NFL schedule. Since your fantasy football games are based around the stats of players in actual games, your league should follow the same schedule as the NFL.

  6. Step 6

Play the game. Keep track of the NFL games and player stats to figure out the winning teams. You can keep things competitive by offering a prize for the league winner.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use the NFL website to help you keep track of player stats and figure out the winning teams in your fantasy football league.
  • You can also start a fantasy football league online. Fantasy Football League Manager is one website that can help you do this.

on 1/31/2009 I used to do this all manually before the internet emerged. Since then, I use one of the free services, like yahoo or NFL.com or ESPN.com (since that one has been free for a couple of years) and everything is done online. It makes things so much easier with scheduling, rosters and transactions.
