Many couples opt for a wedding band to play at their wedding instead of the traditional DJ that has become more popular in recent years. A wedding band has the ability to get the crowd going as well as being more formal for a black-tie event. As you plan your wedding, you will have to set aside time to hire a band. Read on to learn how to hire a wedding band.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Attend bridal shows. Many wedding bands showcase their talents at bridal shows and expos. Take the time to listen to a few different bands and see if they suit your wedding style.

  2. Step 2

Use bands from other receptions that you have attended. If you remember a band from a past wedding that you enjoyed, contact the bride for the details. Remember to ask her if she would mind if you used the same band.

  3. Step 3

Look for a band that plays a variety of musical styles. The best bands cover an array of musical styles and tastes. Ask to look at their song list before you hire them.

  4. Step 4

Set up a time to meet with the band manager. The organization that books the band can let you know their availability for your wedding date as well as their cost.

  5. Step 5

Read through all contracts. Before you sign anything, read the wedding band's contracts to see their requirements. You must also check with your reception venue to see if they can accommodate the band and their equipment.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you feel that the band's musical style won't appeal to all guests, consider hiring a DJ as well. The DJ can play music during the band's breaks.
  • Although your budget may permit for a larger band, a smaller band may be more appropriate for a smaller reception room due to the acoustics of the room.
