The New York Botanical Garden is situated on 250 acres with more than 50 separate garden exhibits. You can visit the gardens any time of year. The season determines what type of plants and flowers that you will see. Plan your visit ahead of time in order to get the most out of the gardens. Read on to learn how to visit the New York Botanical Garden.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on the time of year that you wish to visit the New York Botanical Garden. Different flowers will be blooming each season. For example, if you visit in February expect to see snow crocus, jade vine, passionflower and rosy periwinkle.

  2. Step 2

Pay admission fees. There is a general admission fee as well as a charge to visit the conservatory, take a guided tour or visit the children's garden.

  3. Step 3

Use public transportation to arrive at the New York Botanical Garden. You can park on-site for $10, but traffic can prove to be a problem.

  4. Step 4

Take time to visit the rock garden, the conservatory and ornamental conifer exhibit. These attractions are some of the best that the garden has to offer.

  5. Step 5

Respect the garden rules. You are asked to not pick the flowers or litter the grounds in anyway. You are also required to stay on all garden paths.

  6. Step 6

Bring along cash to shop. The Shop in the Garden has gardening equipment, flowers, plants and books on gardening.

Tips & Warnings
  • To save money on food, bring along your lunch and utilize the garden's picnic area.
  • Certain areas may not be wheelchair accessible due to rocky or soft surfaces.

on 1/9/2009 Stay up to date by visiting NYBG.org. Parking has actually gone up to $12 but you can park for free most days and times along the north side of the road before the entrance. Admission to the grounds (except some special areas - Conservatory, Rock Garden and Children's Garden)is FREE on Wednesdays (all day) and Saturdays before noon. Also look on their site to discover reciprocal benefits at other gardens by being a member. The list is very extensive and, frequently, other garden memberships allow you free admission to many more. Be sure to checkout Wave Hill off W249th Street for a less crowded experience. NYBG members get free admission to Wave Hill weekdays, and everyone gets in free Saturdays before noon. Parking is more scarce ($8 for the adjacent small lot), but free if you're willing to ride a shuttle from a remote lot.
