If you get any amount of snow accumulation, you need to remove the white stuff from your property. You should use the proper tools and equipment to remove snow safely and efficiently from your walks and driveway. Here are some tips to use when removing snow.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Remove any rocks from walkways. Before you start removing snow, make sure there are no large objects in your path. You don't want something to get stuck in the snowblower and cause damage.
Step2
Shovel away small amounts of snow. If the snow is light, you may only need a shovel to get rid of it. Place floor wax on the shovel to stop the snow from sticking to it. Bend your knees while shoveling in order to avoid back injuries.
Step3
Use a snowblower for heavier snow. If you have more than a few inches, use a snowblower to remove the snow. These easy to use machines work like a lawn mower. You simply push the snowblower along and it shoots the snow off to the side.
Step4
Hire a snowplow service. If you have a large area to remove snow from, it is wise to hire a professional to assist you.
Step5
Throw down salt after snow removal. To prevent slipping on icy surfaces, place rock salt on walkways.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should remove large amounts of snow from your roof as well. Heavy snows on a roof can cause major damage to a home.
  • A de-icer can also be used to remove snow from both the home and automobiles.
