Log on to Alaska's official state website.

Click on "Motor Vehicles (DMV)" and "License Plates."

Select the specialty license plates that interest you. View the various specialty license plates available to Alaskan drivers, including University and Children's Trust license plates. Be sure to note any eligibility requirements that may accompany the specialty license plate's application process.

Download and print the application next to the description of the specialty license plate you are interested in acquiring. For most specialty plates, this is Form 821.

Write your name, your vehicle's license plate number, its vehicle identification number, year, make, model, body style and color on the form.

Certify your ownership of your vehicle by checking the "Special Plate."

Indicate what specialty license plate that you are applying for by writing its name on the line provided. If necessary, further describe the plate in the "comments" section. Add specifics like a preferred color if the option is available with your type of specialty plate.

Step 8
Provide your mailing and physical addresses.

Step 9
Print, sign and date your application.

Step 10
Visit your local Division of Motor Vehicles office. Take identification with you.

Turn in your application.

Receive your specialty license plates. Replace your standard license plates, affix all new tabs or decals on the specialty license plates and use immediately.
