Though the wedding shower is typically thrown by the maid of honor, that is just about where the tradition ends these days. Bridal shower themes and settings have become as diverse as the couples themselves. So forget the word scrambles and bridal gowns made of toilet paper. It is time to opt for some more original activities that will entertain young and old alike no matter what the theme. Read on to learn how to entertain guests at a bridal shower.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Shower favors
  • Long grain rice
  • Safety pins
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Silly clothing items
  • Suitcase

Step1
Place a number on gifts as guests arrive. If a guest brings more than one, just put the number on one of their packages. Then fill a basket full of wrapped party favors that have corresponding numbers attached. As the bride chooses a gift to open, have her call out the number attached and who the present is from. Then give the gift giver the shower favor that has the same number on it.
Step2
Call the groom days before the shower and have him answer 15 questions about himself and the couple. Ask him about his favorite food, where the couple went for their first date or what type of animal he would want to be. Then compile the questions and show them to the shower guests being careful not to let the bride see them. Have the guests each guess how many they think the bride will answer correctly. Then ask the questions to the bride and give her credit for everyone she answers exactly like her groom. Award prizes to whoever guessed correctly.
Step3
Make a list of common and uncommon things you find in a woman's purse and assign a point value to each giving higher point values to the more uncommon items. For example, a lipstick or mirror is two points but a condom is 10 points or a staple puller is 20 points. Then call out the items one by one and have guests go through their purses to find the items. Award a prize to whomever scores the most points.
Step4
Play a new version of a typical bridal shower game by emptying a bag of long grain rice into a large mixing bowl and adding 30 small safety pins. Then blindfold each person and have them try to pick out as many safety pins as they can in thirty seconds. It sounds simple, but it is amazing how competitive this can get.
Step5
Get a camera ready for this game designed to entertain everyone at the bride's expense. Tell her it is her wedding night and the hotel has lost its electricity so she must dress in the dark. Then blindfold her and hand her a suitcase telling her she must put on everything in the case. Fill it with silly items such as men's boxers, jumbo sunglasses, a gigantic bra or anything else that will bring a laugh. When she is done, take her picture and include copies with all the thank you notes sent to the bridal shower guests.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have plenty of suitable favors such as day planners, candles, sachets, mugs, teas or candy.
  • Don't invite guests to a bridal shower that haven't been invited to the wedding. If they are not close enough to the bride to be a wedding guest, then inviting them to the shower appears you are just out for the gifts.
