A coffee grinder chops coffee beans with a spinning blade and can also chop nuts, herbs and spices. Your coffee grinder will last a long time as long as you properly care for it. Here is how to care for a coffee grinder.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Unplug your coffee grinder and wait for your blade to come to a complete stop before reaching into your coffee grinder for any reason.

  2. Step 2

Wipe the blade and bowl after each time you use it. If you clean your blade and bowl after each use, it will last longer.

  3. Step 3

Run the grinder only when there are food items in it. If you run the grinder when the bowl is empty, the blade may spin too fast and damage the motor.

  4. Step 4

Operate your grinder only for 30 seconds at a time. Your motor might overheat if you run it any longer than that. You should run your coffee grinder for only one minute total in every five-minute time span.

  5. Step 5

Use pulse action to process beans and other food items. To pulse, release the control switch every few seconds and press it again immediately.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your grinder doesn't stop running, unplug the grinder and brush the coffee grounds away from the switch. Press the switch several times with a toothpick. If the problem continues, take apart the grinder and inspect for breaks.
  • Do not ever immerse your coffee grinder in water.
  • Don't ever put your hand in a coffee grinder while the blade is plugged in.
