A Bar Mitzvah is one of the most important events in the life of a Jewish person. The religious-social ceremony marks the coming of age of a Jewish child to adulthood and celebrates their admittance to the Jewish congregation. A Bar Mitzvah is clearly no simple affair, but follow these steps to organize a smooth and joyous Bar Mitzvah for your son or daughter.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Speak with your local rabbi or Jewish authority. The most complex component of the Bar Mitzvah is the religious part. The Bar Mitzvah requires nearly a year of study and coordination with a rabbi and cantor, so set up a meeting with your local synagogue to begin planning.
Step2
Set a date. The date of the Bar Mitzvah is very important since you should try to include as many of your friends and family as possible. Find a date that is close to the child's birthday that is suitable for your friends and family.
Step3
Decide on what kind of reception you want. A Bar Mitzvah is a joyous affair and is typically celebrated with a reception or party afterwards. The receptions range from a quiet lunch to massive parties in hotel ballrooms. Decide on what best suits your family so you can begin to organize it.
Step4
Reserve a space, food and entertainment. DJs and bands that cater to Bar Mitzvahs are usually quite busy, so if you decide on having music at the reception book it well in advance. The same goes for the party space and food.
Step5
Send out invitations. Traditionally, people send out elaborate paper invitations with envelopes and cards for RSVP. However, some people are taking advantage of online invite sites, which helps save money and keep track of people who accept or decline the invitation.
