How to Bake Butter Cookies

Butter cookie recipes have been passed down from generation to generation. They are easy to bake and melt in your mouth delicious. Like the name states, their distinct flavor comes from butter. Follow these tips to bake your very own butter cookies.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  1. Step 1

    Use an electric mixer to beat the sugar and butter together until creamy. Add in vanilla and egg and continue to beat until thoroughly mixed.

    Mix flour, salt and baking powder together in a separate, small mixing bowl using a wire whisk.

  3. Step 3

    Slowly add the flour mixture into the larger bowl with the creamed ingredients. Mix all ingredients together using the electric mixer until well blended.

    Scoop dough onto a sheet of wax paper, and use your hands to shape the dough into a log 12 inches in length. Fold the edges of the wax paper around the log and place it in the refrigerator to chill for three to four hours.

  5. Step 5

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Take dough out of fridge when firm, and use your hands to shape it into 2-inch balls. Place the balls onto a baking sheet, two inches apart.

  6. Step 6

    Bake cookies for 15 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove cookies from oven and place on wire racks to cool.

Tips & Warnings
  • After rolling the dough into round balls, roll them in course sugar to coat, then bake as directed.
