How to Get Hyphy
"Yee! Wanna ride that yellow bus?" If you understood that sentence, then you are already pretty hyphy. If not, then it is time you got caught up on getting hyphy, the latest hip-hop culture craze to come out of California's Bay Area. Follow these steps to get into the hyphy movement.

1
Get the music. The hyphy movement is essentially about music. Like Southern crunk of a few years ago, hyphy is about booming bass lines and ridiculous rhythms to keep a party moving the whole night. Check out artists like E-40, D.B.'z and The Federation to get a good intro to the hyphy sound.

2
Speak the lingo. You can't get hyphy without being able to talk hyphy. You need to know what words like "maininess," "stewy" and "gouda" mean so you can follow the lyrics and start speaking like a member of the hyphy movement yourself.

3
Learn the dance. Hyphy requires some pretty "stewy" dance moves. Get out to a hyphy club and pay attention to the moves that are being thrown down to the crunkish bass lines.
-
4
Ghost ride the whip. Ghost riding the whip or getting out of your car and dancing while the car rolls in neutral, is one of the most popular pastimes of the hyphy movement. While you should not do this yourself, check out the moves in hyphy rap videos where closed streets and safety precautions were used to execute the move.

5
Dress hyphy. Hyphy dress is pretty close to being a free-for-all. Stop worrying about Diddy's expensive sunglasses and find a pair of shades that are large, goofy and very 1970s. Think patch-covered leather jackets, fake jewels and baseball hats to complete the look.
