How to Make a Bullwinkle Costume

Bullwinkle was one of the first animated cartoon characters on television. Bullwinkle J. Moose is the sidekick for a flying squirrel named Rocky. Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons began in the early 1960's and won the hearts of adults and children. Rocky and Bullwinkle costumes are a great idea for couples. Bullwinkle is an easy costume to make, since a moose doesn't wear clothes. So cover yourself in a brown "moose" body, throw on some antlers and you're ready to go.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Brown sweat suit, Bullwinkle t-shirt or fuzzy brown body suit
    • Foam, Styrofoam, heavy cardboard or thick poster board
    • Box knife
    • Brown or yellow spray paint or material
    • Bike or motorcycle helmet or wide plastic headband
    • Wooden dowels (optional)
    • Hot glue and hot glue gun
    • Combat boots, brown shoes or fuzzy brown house shoes
    • Brown, black and white face paint
      • 1

Wear a brown sweat suit, Bullwinkle T-shirt and jeans, or make a simple fuzzy brown body suit similar to a baby's full piece sleeper. Remember, Bullwinkle is a moose, so he doesn't have to wear clothes. You are just going for the hairy moose look.

      • 2

Draw Bullwinkle's antlers on a piece of stiff foam, heavy cardboard or thick poster board and cut them out using a sharp box knife. Bullwinkle's antlers are very simple but remember you will be carrying these on your head all evening, so don't use anything too heavy.

      • 3

Spray paint the antlers yellow or brown or glue fuzzy brown material on them. Bullwinkle's antlers come straight out each side of his head, not the top of his head like you would see on a real moose.

      • 4

Decide how you want to attach the antlers to your head. You can cover a bike or motorcycle helmet with brown fuzzy material and then hot glue to antlers onto the helmet, or you could hot glue the antlers to a wide plastic headband. Hot glue a thin wooden dowel rod down the back side of the antlers and to the helmet or headband, if you need additional support.

      • 5

Wear big combat boots if you are going for the lumberjack Bullwinkle look in blue jeans and a t-shirt, otherwise just wear regular brown shoes or fuzzy brown house shoes.

      • 6

Paint your face brown and make big white oval circles around your eyes. Paint your nose black.
