Step 1
Visit Dogsled.com or the official International Sled Dog Racing Association website to find lists of dog sled races. The lists include the site and dates of upcoming races around the world.
-
Step 2
Travel to Alaska. Several of the world's premier dog sled races, including the Iditarod and Yukon Quest, take place each year in this northern state. For each, book rooms in participating cities and line up to watch the racers come in. The Iditarod ends in Nome, but you can also catch the race's start in Wasilla or other towns along the way.
-
Step 3
Look for dog sled races in other states. Races are held in many other locations throughout North America and in cold areas around the world. Find races everywhere from California to the United Kingdom.
-
Step 4
Read the histories of the races you are attending. Races like the Iditarod have rich histories and your experience will be more complete and better with this knowledge. Find bios on websites like Dogsled.com for current mushers and their teams.
-
Step 5
Dress warmly to watch the race. You may end up waiting along the route as you watch for racers and you'll want to stay comfortable. Remember to wear warm and comfortable boots as well.
